Most lower back pain is not a spine problem — it is a muscle problem. The real culprits are the muscle groups surrounding your lumbar region that have become chronically overloaded and never fully release.
Desk work and driving shorten and tighten the hip flexors and psoas muscle, pulling the lumbar spine forward and creating constant tension in the lower back.
When the glutes and hip flexors are imbalanced, the lower back compensates by overworking. No amount of back stretching resolves this without releasing the hips.
Tightness in the piriformis and surrounding muscles can compress the sciatic nerve, causing radiating pain down the leg that originates in the lower back.
Once the lower back has been in pain, surrounding muscles tighten protectively. This guarding pattern becomes its own source of pain and limits recovery.
Acupressure massage for lower back pain works best when the pain is muscular, persistent, and related to posture or daily strain - rather than acute injury.
Has lasted weeks or months without fully resolving
Is concentrated in the lumbar or sacral region
Improves temporarily with movement, then returns
Is associated with desk work, driving, or physical labour
Feels worse after sitting for long periods
Radiates into your glutes or down one leg
Worsens with stress or poor sleep
Has not fully responded to stretching or rest alone
Massage therapy is not suitable for acute disc herniation, fractures, severe inflammation, or unexplained sudden-onset pain. If your lower back pain came on suddenly, is accompanied by bladder or bowel changes, or followed a fall or accident, please consult your doctor before booking.
Every session is tailored to your specific pain pattern. We do not follow a standard sequence - we follow your tension.
We start by asking where you feel the pain, what makes it worse, and how long it has been present. This 2-3 minute conversation shapes the entire session.
(Intake)
Your practitioner works across the lower back, sacrum, and hip region to identify active knots and guarded muscle areas - particularly the quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, and gluteus medius.
(Acupressure technique)
Because lower back pain almost always involves the surrounding musculature, we address the hip flexors and glutes - the two areas most often overlooked in basic back massage.
(Deep tissue release)
If you experience radiating pain or sciatica-like symptoms, we apply targeted pressure to the piriformis and surrounding tissues to reduce compression along the sciatic nerve pathway.
(Sciatic relief)
Our practitioners use a progressive pressure approach — never sudden force. You remain in control of the session depth throughout. We check in regularly and adjust.
(Easy Cozy technique)
Many clients notice meaningful change after the first session. Chronic pain patterns typically require 2-4 sessions to shift significantly.
Reduced lumbar pressure and aching
The heaviness and constant dull ache in the lower back eases as guarded muscles release.
Improved ability to sit and stand
Transitions from sitting to standing become less stiff and painful within sessions.
Less radiating pain into the glutes or legs
Clients with sciatica-related symptoms often notice reduced leg tingling and buttock aching.
Better sleep quality
Lower back tension that disrupts sleep position and comfort often improves significantly.
Reduced dependence on painkillers
As root tension is addressed, many clients find they need less over-the-counter pain relief between sessions.
Greater body awareness
You leave with a clearer sense of which positions and habits are contributing to your pain pattern.
For lower back pain, we recommend a minimum of 60 minutes on your first visit to allow adequate time for assessment and treatment. The 90-minute session is most popular for chronic pain clients.
30 Minutes
$38
Best for focused head, neck, or shoulder tension. Not recommended as a first session for lower back pain.
60 Minutes
$70
Recommended starting point for lower back pain. Full body acupressure with targeted lumbar and hip flexor work.
90 Minutes
$105
Our most recommended option for chronic lower back and sciatic pain. Allows time for full lumbar, hip, and glute treatment.
120 Minutes
$135
For long-standing back pain requiring extended deep tissue work and full body reset. Includes reflexology if needed.
Recurring lower back pain is usually caused by chronic muscle tension in the lumbar region, tight hip flexors from prolonged sitting, and imbalanced glute or core muscles. Without releasing these deeper tension patterns, the pain returns even after rest or basic stretching.
Massage therapy can help reduce the muscle tension that contributes to sciatica-related discomfort. At Easy Cozy Wellness, we use targeted acupressure on the piriformis, glutes, and lumbar region to relieve pressure along the sciatic nerve pathway. This is different from treating the disc or nerve itself — we work on the surrounding muscle tension.
Relaxation massage works on surface tension. Our acupressure approach targets specific pressure points and the deeper muscle groups — including the hip flexors and glutes — that are driving your lower back pain. Every session is adapted to your individual pain pattern, not a standard sequence.
For chronic lower back pain, we typically recommend weekly sessions for the first 3-4 weeks to break the tension cycle, then transitioning to bi-weekly or monthly maintenance. Most clients notice meaningful improvement within 2-3 sessions.
